Welcome to The Game. Super-powered individuals battle villains and save the innocent to accumulate points. Points are awarded for speed, style, technique. Points are lost for collateral damage. All take part in hope of being crowned "King of Heroes". And every second of it filmed for the entertainment of the masses.

Or at least that's how it started.

The ‘Bat’, sponsored by Wayne Industries, has been neck and neck with the ‘Super’ for years now. They team up for international games, paired with the 'Wonder' as USA's unstoppable trinity but back on their home soil, the rivalry is bitter. No-one knows the true identities of the heroes. The logo marked costumes and their special powers and tricks are more recognisable than the people beneath.

The Bat has fans divided by his tactic of using young sidekicks to build up his points. No-one knows what his powers really are but mystery is the Bat's trademark. And his flashy 'Wingboys' are always crowd pleasers.

But the crowds always wants more. More drama, more risks, more spectacle and the TV execs will do anything to keep the viewers happy, planning more and more elaborate stunts and rescues.

And it's getting out of hand. It started with small accidents being swept under the rug; payoffs and out of court settlements. But then the deaths, and the coverups.

An engineer named Jack was hired to set up stunts for the show, meant as the semi finals before the end of season show-down between the Bat and the Super. No-one realised that Jack had other motives till it was too late.

The death of the second Wingboy was reported as a terrible accident, a tragic loss. No-one at the studios wanted to admit they'd hired a madman with a grudge. No-one wanted to accept blame.

So the game goes on. And gets more and more dangerous as other monsters outside the network's control follow Joker Jack's lead and take on the heroes of The Game. The TV execs publicly condemned the interference but grow ever richer off the profits.

And the death-toll rises.

But a new player had entered the game. No logo, no sponsorship. Just a red hood. And he plays by a very different set of rules.
